After receiving his bachelors’ degree at Cornell, he went on to pursue an M.D. from Harvard Medical School, complete his residency in internal medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital and then earn a master’s in public health from the Harvard School of Public Health.
At Harvard, Sequist teaches Health Care Policy and Patient Care in the clinical setting. He also acts as a primary care physician at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates. Sequist was an active member of the Cornell Native American Student Association during his undergraduate career, and he continues to incorporate his heritage into his work today. At Harvard, he conducts research on racial disparities and Native American health care policy and runs the Harvard Vanguard Medical’s physician volunteer program at the Navajo reservation in New Mexico to provide much needed medical care for American Indians. He currently lives in Boston with his wife, Lecia V. Sequist, who is also a Cornell and Harvard Medical School alumna, and their two boys. Though he has lived in Boston for over 15 years, Sequist remains a die-hard New York sports fan.
