Yong L. Joo, Professor in the Robert Frederick Smith School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, has been appointed the BP Amoco/H. Laurance Fuller Professor.
The chair was established in 2000 by BP Amoco in honor of Mr. Fuller’s years of service. Fuller was employed by Amoco Corporation, or its affiliates, from the time of his graduation from Cornell University in 1961. In 1991, he became chief executive officer of the company. In August 1998, Amoco Corporation merged with British Petroleum Co. to form BP Amoco Plc. Fuller served as co-chairman of the combined company until his retirement in April 2000.
Joo’s research focuses on experimental and theoretical studies on advanced, scalable manufacturing processes based on the flow instability such as gas-assisted electrospinning, air-controlled electrospray and Taylor-Couette (T-C) reactors with axial flow. These newly developed processes offer fundamental studies on controlling the assembly of polymers, ceramics, metals and their hybrids at nanoscale for energy storage applications.
