Yaset (Ace) Acevedo has been named Outstanding TA for 2017 for his work in CHEME 1120. Ace's passion for teaching and caring for students was noted by his nominator, Professor Chris Alabi.
Professor Alabi cited the many times Ace went "above and beyond" to help students learn the material. This effort was also noticed and commended by students in their evaluations of Ace's role as TA. Professor Alabi writes:
"Ace has been instrumental in promoting many students, women and especially the underrepresented to pursue careers in the STEM fields and I can think of no one more deserving of this award than him. Not only is he an outstanding TA, but he is also an outstanding mentor."
In addition to his commitment and excellence in TAing 1120, Professor Alabi also notes Ace's dual roles serving as TA, while organizing and leading the CBE WOMEN event, as well as coordinating the CBE portions of the CURIE and CATALYST Academies for high school youth.
Ace will receive a cash award for this honor, and his achievement will be recognized at the next CBE graduate symposium banquet.
